Beyond the Smartphone: How Mirrorless Camera Rekindled My Passion for Photography

After years of capturing memories with my iPhone, I decided to take the plunge and venture into photography with an compact mirrorless camera. This change, far from trivial, revolutionized my approach to photography and the world around me. In this article, I invite you to discover my journey, reflections, and lessons learned from this enriching transition.

My beginnings in photography

I’ve been practicing photography for about 20 years. At age 18, I bought a 2-megapixel, ultra-compact Minolta digital camera (a Minolta Dimage X) with my savings. It was incredible — I was the only one in my group of friends who had such a camera instead of a disposable one… so I immortalized our vacation memories at a frantic pace. Then, like many people, 2007 marked the arrival of the first iPhone, and I abandoned my little Minolta, which I regret so much now!

I’ve taken thousands, even tens of thousands of photos over the last 20 years. I lost some each time I broke a phone. I saved duplicates or triplicates whenever I made different backups on various computers or hard drives. I haven’t…
