The Instagram algorithm knew the assignment. It saw I had been searching for sinus remedies for some time, so it showed me an offer I couldn’t sneeze at.

Quick backgrounder: I have had sinus issues for some time now, and have been to two specialists. One said it was a “vasomotor” problem, meaning inflammation of nasal tissues leading to congestion.

But they didn’t figure out the root cause. The other suggested a $10,000 nose job from the inside out to address the problem, promising complete relief.

Obviously, I skipped the second option, mainly because I don’t have that kind of money. However, I was given prescription sprays, which helped with overall congestion but didn’t really ease the raw, burning sensation.

The truth is that I had silently accepted defeat. I figured my problem was a drop in the ocean compared to what some people go through with their health, so I didn’t seek a third opinion.

However, while I tried to convince myself otherwise, my quality of life was being negatively impacted. Anyone with chronic health conditions know how frustrating and draining they can be — and how they can flare up at the most inopportune times.
