Let’s embark on a brief journey to the scenic heights of Barcelona! Known as miradores in Spanish, these viewpoints offer not only stunning panoramic views but also a deeper understanding of the city’s history and architecture.
In this article, drawing on my two years of living experience in Barcelona, I’ve highlighted alternative spots you can add to your itinerary without making major changes to your must-see list. These viewpoints are all free to visit, and I’m sure you won’t want to leave the city without experiencing them!
1. El Corte Inglés
Our first stop is El Corte Inglés, the standout structure in Plaça de Catalunya, one of Barcelona’s central hubs. A familiar sight to many Spanish shoppers, it’s a great place to start if you’re looking to browse local brands and international favorites. But there’s more to El Corte Inglés than just shopping.
But let’s get to the real reason we’re here: the rooftop terrace. You’ll find an enclosed glass terrace offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. With tables lining the windows, it’s the ideal spot to relax and enjoy the cityscape. Try to snag a seat during golden hour and watch as the city lights begin to twinkle.
Pro Tip: While I wouldn’t strongly recommend dining here, trying the local churros could be worth it . The thick and rich chocolate is a nice touch.
2. Bunkers del Carmen
This mirador, offering one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona, has been included in many content creators’ must-see lists.
While getting there is a bit of a trek, it’s definitely worth it. You can reach it after a 20-minute walk up some steep and winding paths following your visit to Park Güell, or you can take a bus and then walk for about 10 minutes along a similar path.
For the ultimate experience, time your visit for golden hour and grab a drink to enjoy while taking in the panoramic views.
3. Arenas Shopping Center Terrace
After visiting the iconic MNAC or Plaza España, be sure to check out the rooftop terrace of the Arenas shopping center (featured on the cover).
This former bullring now offers breathtaking panoramic views of Montjuïc. While a wire mesh separates you from the city, the view is still impressive.
You’ll also find plenty of places to grab a drink or a snack.
There’s a paid elevator, but you can easily access the terrace for free through the shopping center.
Something Extra to Check Out…
If you’re looking for a fun and photogenic activity, head to Ikono, the Immerse Experience, located inside Arenas.
This unique attraction features 15 themed rooms, each with its own distinct atmosphere. Plan to spend at least an hour exploring these environments, and bring your camera to capture the unforgettable moments. Here are a few photos to inspire you:
If you’re looking for some retail therapy while you’re at the shopping center, here are a few stores worth checking out:
- Druni: A great place to find perfumes at affordable prices. During sales, their prices can be even lower than duty-free shops.
- Desigual: If you’re looking for something different from the usual high-street brands, Desigual offers a vibrant and eclectic collection.
- Natura: For those who prioritize natural and sustainable products, Natura offers a range of beauty products, home fragrances, and clothing.
- Alehop: This fun and quirky store is perfect for finding unique gifts and souvenirs.
A Cultural Tip: The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) offers free admission every Saturday after 3 pm. Don’t miss the chance to explore this amazing museum, especially its stunning dome.
