Should death be feared?

3 min readJul 29, 2024

what should our relationship be with our mortality?

Humans as a whole have managed to escape a lot. We have become what we are thanks to our adaptability and ability to overcome. We have managed to shield ourselves from dangerous predators, the elements, and even ourselves. Nevertheless, there is one thing we can’t escape, and that is the reality that our time in this world is numbered. Now we cope with this in many different ways. Some seek to immortalize themselves through their art or by building a successful company. Others decide to pass their knowledge and experiences to the ones they love, hoping that their stories will be told long after they are gone.

I understand this may be a bleak subject for some. Honestly, I don’t like thinking about it much myself. It started a few weeks back when I told my family I was thinking of getting a motorcycle. My mom, who sometimes forgets I’m pushing 30, was the first one to tell me it’s a dumb idea. Immediately, 50 reasons jumped up justifying why I shouldn’t do it. Motorcyclists run into a lot more danger if there’s an accident. The city I live in has crazy traffic, and car drivers don’t respect motorcyclists. The statistics alone should convince me that a car is the superior choice. To be fair, I have been going back and forth; I do have my reservations.
