Who will come out on top?

Is the auteur filmmaker back in 2024? It feels like in modern filmmaking the idea of the auteur is something of the past. Today studios and producers get highly involved in the creative process of movies. That being said the movies on this list all feel very driven by a single vision. Even Barbie which is an enormous IP felt like a group of very passionate creators working to serve the vision of a single person. The films in the best feature film category this time around are all pretty strong, to say the least. There are clear favorites like Oppenheimer but the winner of the category does not feel as certain as it did last year with “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. The category also feels very dynamic and diverse in a good way. With 2 foreign films and 1 coproduction not to mention the variety in topics and genre. In this thought piece, I will once again, like last year analyze all the films nominated and at the end will make my choice for who is going home with that little shiny golden man. Unfortunately i’ll have to exclude Maestro, The Holdovers, and American Fiction as I didn’t have time to watch them, but i’ll update the article as soon as I watch them. Warning there are spoilers for the films ahead!
