Walking in Nature

--

It amazes me how healing and soothing it is to walk in nature. Even on the coldest days (WAY below freezing), Ember (my Newfoundland) and I have walked several miles outside. My body might be cold, but my mind clears, and my heart opens.

The meditative sound of the wind in the trees, the light bouncing off the snow on the trail, and the song of the owls echoing in the trees, lift my spirits. As soon as my feet find a hiking path, or click into skis, or I push off on my bike, or launch my kayak, I feel safe and whole. The dangers and fears of the world become transparent stories built on lies, much like ancient fairy tales.

Yes, I know that there are real issues and dangers in the world. However, every generation has thought that it was the worst of times. Simultaneously, as Dickens said, it can also be the best of times. And regardless of the chaos that surrounds us, we need to sink deeply into moments of joy.

Wishing you clarity and warmth. Shabbat Shalom..
