What comes to your mind when asked, “What’s for lunch?”. It is a simple question, but many of us can find it challenging to answer. There are many possible options, and they start rushing into our minds. How much time do I have to spare, how much do I want to spend, and many other possible questions can creep into our minds.

Giving an answer to what’s for lunch is not complex. But why do we sometimes go through thoughts that seem to cloud and occupy our minds? Why does our mind process simple things into rather complex thinking patterns? The reason for this is an interesting habit that I wasn’t initially aware of. It is the habit we commonly refer to as overthinking.

Do I overthink?

Overthinking can be quite common, but some people tend to overthink more than others. There are many reasons why people overthink. But often it is because we step into a negative thinking pattern. It is thinking about the what-if scenarios and playing them repeatedly in our minds. This can cause a downward spiral of negative thoughts that clouds our ability to make the right decisions.

Life is full of decisions that we need to make. There are decisions that lead to clear outcomes, but there are certain decisions that are more uncertain as well. Often, it is a lot easier…
