Hang It in the Louvre
Paris 2024 did not disappoint
If you weren’t watching the Olympics this year you missed something special.
Official slogan for Paris 2024: Games Wide Open. Intended as a message of unity and inclusivity, an invitation to experience new emotion while we celebrate the greatest athletes the world has to offer.
Add a dash or two of controversy of course.
How very French.
To open the ceremony we followed pre-taped segments of a faceless soldier dressed in revolutionary garb, navigating over rooftops with famous Parisian landmarks in the distance, spying illuminated gargoyles in the City of Light.
There was a tip of the beret to literature and fashion. A smiling threesome closed an apartment door, insinuating a Ménage à trois.
I was disappointed the French didn’t figure out a way for my Sony to miraculously squirt Chanel №5 to engulf my living room. Or have a baguette magically appear in my oven.
Parisians love pushing boundaries after all.
And let’s face it, Parisians know art.
Paris opened the games as only Paris can, bold and unapologetic. Lady Gaga sang in French a la can-can wearing a black bustier and waving pink feathery things while athletes floated by on the River Seine.
