Today is International Women’s Day. I raise my voice in solidarity with all of my sisters treading an unsteady path in these uncertain times, and with all of those whose hands I hold in sisterhood, such as

and , who, like me, have not only stared into the face of the abyss and survived, but thrived.

In the face of impossible odds, many unforgettable women like them have managed to come out on the other side, bruised but not beaten; beautiful, not broken; fearless and strong. Hear their names and know that courage exists.

If you are one of them, speak your truth. Add your voice. The world needs to hear it.

I didn’t write an essay this year for this important day; rather, I’ve attached my story from last year. My thoughts and feelings have not changed — they’ve grown ever stronger. Like fabulous women, some stories just age well.
