Checklist for Light Backpack Travelling

Are you planning on buying a backpack? You don’t need that much, everything will fit in.

Two years ago, I thought backpacking was for hippies, but now I don’t.

My first backpack trip was to Mexico for 25 days with two of my best friends in the summer of 2023. They were used to travelling with just a 10 kg bag, but I didn’t: every time I had to take a plane, I took my baggage, whether the cabin size (>10kg) for a few days or the checked size (>20kg) for longer trips.

This was a great personal experience. Not only was the trip awesome, visiting the Aztec ruins or eating tacos every day, but I also discovered an easy, handy, and comfy way of travelling that I have already repeated and will be doing more times in the future.

Why travel backpacking?

  1. You make better use of space, so you take only what you need, encouraging light packing and reducing travel stress and costs, which is often associated with a minimalist lifestyle.
  2. Backpacks allow for greater freedom of movement, especially in crowded areas, on uneven terrain, when navigating stairs, public transportation, cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways, or limited infrastructure.
