5 Reasons Why Cleaning Is Beneficial For Writers
1. Cleaning is a zen moment.
Mindless activity that clears your mind. While washing dishes, the water cleanses your thoughts. The sound of the running water is like being in nature. Constant. Soothing. Relaxed state. Ideas pour in. In fact, I had the idea of writing this article this morning while I washed the dishes.
2. Cleaning declutters your mind.
Cluttered space clutters your mind to think clearly. There is a saying in Peruvian culture: The devil hides in the dirty spaces. Is that pile of clothes still on the floor? Even if they are clean, if you didn’t fold and put them away by now it is clutter. You will feel light once your space is clean, tidy, and organized. It will spark joy like Marie Kondo’s motto. Joy will bring peace. Ideas, characters, plot, and storylines will easily formulate when you feel your sacred writing space is organized and the messiness is not looming over from an uncleaned room. Or thinking about that stack of dishes, old mail, dirty bathroom, or dust monsters are interfering with your writing flow. Clean your space. Free your mind.
