Happy Monday: 5th May 2025. Is there power in Positive Thinking?
Why is it that people are so quick to recommend positive thinking when one feels low? Sometimes I wish that people would just say, “I understand” instead of offering unsolicited advice.
Is it ok for me to acknowledge my feelings? Yes! It’s essential to recognize and accept my emotions, and I find that suppressing and ignoring them is unhelpful. I know that it’s okay to have difficult days.
I find a better outcome by not trying to force myself into a positive mind-set, and instead I focus on small, achievable actions that bring me a sense of accomplishment. Preferably, I keep these as simple as possible, like taking a short walk, practicing deep breathing, or playing music.
On these days I connect with my understanding and empathetic friends and I write, as I’m doing now, to sharing my experiences with others. It’s amazing how often these resonate with my friends, and even people I haven’t actually met yet; and these in turn share their day and what’s happening with them. This is not like an “I’m suffering more than you” contest, these are people who just need to know that they are not alone.
