Geometric Thinking
A #MMPoetryBattle Poem
I encapsulated my insecurities
In perfect concentric circles
With the pointy end of a compass
Daring others to enter
My relative area of safety
Perimeter marked with a moat of tears
360 degree view from atop
The diametrical wall between
Wanting to fit in and
Fearing the pressure of acceptance
Unspoken arguments playing on loop
Telling me to divide by pi
Because the irrationality of anxiety
Is too much for squared edges
Putting me on edge, or on the ledge
When the smooth arcs of my
Cylindrical tower protect me
Like a warm hug
Some days I struggle to get words on the page. Other days, they fly off my fingers like waterfalls. Writing this poem was a dam breaking release that was also a lot of fun. My inner nerd is happy. If you like this poem and want to see what else I write, check out my website.
