A Palestinian Pastor Calling American Christians to Their Knees
He’s Aching for the Church to See Gaza
The following is a crossover from stories, however is formatted for a Medium.
Nearly a dozen or so rows back, I watched Palestinian Reverend Munther Isaac break. And I broke with him. Tired, exhausted and trying to keep his strength, he admitted he’s angry, he showed his vulnerability. His voice, powerful in a colonized built church turned progressive for social justice on the upper west side of the city. On the tail end of another tour through the U.S. the good Reverend is calling the American Church to its knees.
Those listening seem to be few, and if they do sympathize with the Palestinian plight, they are silent. Isaac is clear: “Silence in complicity.” It’s often ignorance too. And he ignorance is a “choice.”
Ignorance serves the American church because they do not have to look at the suffering of those they abandoned.
