The Axolotl: The Salamander That Smiles And Heals Itself

The axolotl is an aquatic species of salamander that is permanently immature. It is found in the lakes of Mexico. The axolotl transforms from its larval stage, sprouting gills and a grin that never quite disappears throughout its life. It is even more astonishing that it can regrow its limbs not to mention parts of its heart, spinal cord and even portions of the brain. With all of these striking features, the axolotl is critically endangered as a result of habitat loss and pollution.
