Opposition
A poem on the disconnect between mind and body
Is it possible to feel disconnected from yourself?
Mind and body never fully in conjunction,
One always slipping away while the other moves in.
Like how the setting sun starts to get lost
Beneath the horizon line
When the moon first begins to reveal
Its ethereal face.
Like the moon,
My body is mesmerizing from afar.
Only when you take a closer look can you see
The lumps and craters decorating my skin
Between constellations of freckles.
Like the moon,
My body has been
Walked on, fought over, examined,
Poked, prodded, and sampled.
Like the moon,
My body has been forgotten about
At the promise of something new and exciting.
Like the sun,
My mind is invigorating for others,
Draining itself for the sake of making the world warmer.
For me, it’s a source of destruction,
Too boiling to be contained,
Too intense to be tolerable.
Like the sun,
My mind has never been…
