Reasons Why I Write
The simplistic reasons I write, and what writing has done for my life
In the 4th grade, I wrote a book called The Lost Horse.
It was about a horse who got loose from his pasture and a little girl who spent the day looking for him.
It was a short book, maybe 25 pages long.
After the book was complete and I drew and colored the front cover, I felt so accomplished. I just wrote a book!
I still remember the horse’s name, Seneca. I still feel proud of that book today.
Honestly, I think it would be pretty cool to go back into The Lost Horse, edit it and publish it as a children’s book.
When I was 12 my parents made me see a therapist for a short time. The therapist suggested that I start a journal to keep track of my feelings.
She told me to write however I was feeling and what made me feel that way, then read it back to myself.
The purpose of this was to reflect on what I wrote and feel those feelings.
To validate the feelings.
From then on, I carried a journal everywhere I went.
