A brush with nature
Hurricane Ida brought us 2 baby squirrels.
The week we had 2 baby squirrels in our garage.
This is an emotional story for me to retell because it is very true and heartbreaking.
In 2021, we experienced a hurricane that brought major flooding.
Typically, we don’t get bad storms like this.
When we get flooding, it is not catastrophic. So, this instance was not expected.
The storm left trees down, water flowing around the house, and branches scattered in the yard.
When the kids found two baby squirrels curled up in the sun soaking wet laying near the foot on the mailbox, I immediately picked them up and made them a warm box to let them dry.
I used Google Lens to find out what they were, since they were so small, I really didn’t know.
The little guys still had their eyes closed.
The nest must have broken loose during the storm, but I had no idea where they came from or how far they had traveled.
I was hoping Mom was still alive and close by, so I set the box out near where most of the trees were and left it there until sundown.
