I am the wrongly deported Maryland man, stuck in a Voiceland prison

An old post that I was scared to post

In a shocking but perhaps unsurprising turn of events, the El Salvadoran President has declared it “preposterous” to think that he might return the wrongly deported Maryland man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The Supreme Court ordered the executive branch to facilitate the man’s return, and the Justice Department took that to mean that they remove certain useless obstacles but not others that actually blocked Garcia’s path to returning to the United States.

Diplomacy would have been required to facilitate the innocent man’s return, and it doesn’t seem like diplomacy was used. Trump can twist arms when he wants — high tariffs could be placed, for instance, or even military might could be threatened. The El Salvadoran President’s arm was one he didn’t feel like twisting, I guess. Trump didn’t even seem to half-assedly try; he didn’t even place minimally higher tariffs on El Salvador as a bargaining chip. The relationship between the El Salvadoran President and Trump appears cozy, although it seems like the El Salvadoran President would like some reassurances that Garcia is actually supposed to be in prison.

In a way, the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling in favor of the wrongly deported Maryland man, and their insistence that his return be facilitated, is just a nice gesture. Everyone now knows this poor man was wrongly deported to one of the worst prisons out there, which makes the gesture more…

I am a professor of physics who — when she has a work-life balance — likes to write and play music and bake. I have schizophrenia and it sucks.
