How looking up to fictional or real-life heroes can inspire courageous actions and everyday kindness
On May 21, 2024, an assault occurred on a train in Taiwan. Thankfully, several courageous passengers intervened and successfully stopped the attacker. Among them was a man named Mr. Hsu. When asked about his bravery,
For context, Himmel is known as the “destined hero” chosen to save the world from the Demon Lord. However, in reality, he isn’t actually the chosen one, he fails to draw the sacred sword meant to defeat the Demon Lord. Or maybe, just maybe, Himmel shattered the very idea of destiny by choosing to be a hero anyway.
This character alone gave Mr. Hsu the determination to do something extraordinary, even at the expense of skipping a powerlifting competition he had been preparing for. When he intervened, he thought,
It’s what the hero Himmel would have done.
It’s amazing how ordinary people without extraordinary powers or plot armor can save others just like the heroes they admire.
