Psychologists estimate that . These range from small, immediate decisions (like which utensil to use for dinner) to bigger decisions (like when to go to bed and how to spend your free time). Some days, we make even bigger decisions (like applying for a job, enrolling in school, getting engaged, or getting a tattoo), but most of our everyday choices rely on instinct. If we were to think deeply about every action before we take it, we’d never have time to actually do anything.
But how many parts of our lives are automatic? In a busy day, how many things are predetermined because of our habits?
Don’t get me wrong, habits can be great. There are thousands of books and articles written about the power of forming good habits. The right morning routine can change your outlook on the day. A proper diet can prevent nutrient deficiencies and increase your energy levels.
But some habits hold us back, and I’m not just talking about the obviously harmful ones like scrolling through TikTok in bed or starting your morning with a cigarette.
