More than 18K pounds of meat recalled after a customer complained of meat tasting ‘off’
more than 18,000 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage, sliced meat, and poultry products produced by Smith Packing in Utica, New York.
The recall was caused by elevated levels of sodium nitrite, prompted by customer complaints of the meat tasting “off” and being discolored.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
