Never, ever trust your first draft. Maybe you know this already, but how well can you edit your own work? Try cutting one-third of your first draft. Yes, you’re hearing it right. One-third. But wait, there is a catch.
You can’t just expel random words. You trim, scrub, recalibrate, polish.
Ask yourself: Is there an easier way to convey this idea? Is this word really important? Why do I need that sentence?
At times, you are going to see incoherent sentences. Individual lines are like broken traffic. How can you fix them? Remove one? Remove both…
