AskFeebs: 0Chain Address — June 3, 2020
Each week, hosts an AMA with 0Chain’s Operations Director, Derick Fiebiger, to address questions from the community. Without further delay, let’s dive into this weeks episode:
Greeting
- Welcome to AskFeebs — a weekly address where your questions on crypto and 0Chain are answered. I’m Derick Fiebiger, Director of Operations for 0Chain, and I thank you for joining me. Let’s hop into things.
0Chain Highlights
- This week’s episode of The 0Chain Minute highlights technical questions with a more thorough look into GDPR. This explains why it is an important data feature and why it’s important for enterprises to offer it.
- 0Chain is an ambitious blockchain project focusing on decentralizing data storage and tokenizing the value of that asset through their ZCN token. The focus of this channel is to focus on briefing the community on 0Chain updates and providing insightful answers to community questions.
- Wanting answers to your questions on the next episode of AskFeebs? You can message Chad, our Community Manager, via or submit them via from our weekly thread. One disclaimer on questions, we want questions that cannot be easily found on Telegram, etc. These will be questions that require some more in-depth answers from the team.
Questions & Answers
Question 1: Is the 64kB file block chunk set final? Has any analysis been done on the efficiency of this size? For use cases where there are many small files of course the client could choose concatenate (compress) files but just wondering how this chunk size was determined? — sculptex
- Yes, we ran an analysis on various sets and 64kB was chosen as our best option for facilitating large files transmission. For now this will be the final spec as we head into mainnet. We could look into dynamic size later, but Saswata suspects doing so would have a big impact on the code base.
Question 2: I notice some wording, like statistically impossible, are used in WP but some people talk of quantum computing or scalable technologies being able to reverse engineer /compute current cryptographic protocols in the not too distant future. Are there some figures/comparisons for complexity of security features of 0chain? So how hard would it be to hack a wallet, multisig wallet or PRE encoded file for example? Maybe compared to bitcoin addresses or something established that people recognize and if say in next 5 years something algorithm used was deemed ‘hackable’ is there scope for updates on live chain? — sculptex
- Quantum proof computing is on the radar, but given its nascency we’re not thinking about quantum proofing yet, but we have identified several ways to increase security later, when that time comes.
Question 3: Is it possible to choose a region (for example, Europe, USA, etc..) to get the files stored?
— Stefan
- Yes, we can do that both on private and public networks.
Question 4: has plans for the 0Chain DEX been completely taken off the roadmap or has it been pushed further down the timeline?
— NoelSphinx
- While we have built the supporting layers that would make for an incredible DEX in the future, we need to focus on being the best dStorage platform and be #1 in that category first.
Question 5: why would oracle and AWS offer 0Chain storage solutions?
— hey
- AWS and other cloud platforms encourage utilization of their infrastructure by SaaS vendors. Example is NetApp, who offer performance storage in the cloud. Similarly, we offer a better data privacy and security layer in the cloud.
Question 6: is the free 2gb offered through 0box going to be store on the public network or private?
— Nikola
- 0Box is all public. So, yes free 2gb is from the public network
Question 7: Since every Business is required to be gdpr compliant — how is the fact of a decentralized storage gdpr compliant? How does 0Chain comply with Gdpr standards? I know it is encrypted and that it is technically gdpr compliant. But what is the standpoint regarding the actual laws? Was this aspect revised/authorized by any official authority?
— Stefan
- This is a good question. Saswata is talking to CPOs and educating them about 0Chain and getting a lot of interest with regards to this aspect. The and Saswata’s most recent blog talks more about how this works and what 0Chain can offer for GDPR compliance.
- It’s primarily that we shift the responsibility to the user, by having them own data and data activities are recorded transparently on the chain, and user gives explicit consent to the company. So its more about the whole process of how we provide the solution (shift ownership, transparent recording of data activities, and higher security protection), rather than decentralized storage.
Feebs: Thanks for all the questions, a lot of them in this week’s episode. I will see you guys next week!
